3  The direct object answers the question WHO or WHAT?  John saw the cat / Jean a vu le chat  What did John see? The cat, cat is the direct object  To replace cat and shorten the sentence we say “it”  John saw it / Jean l’a vu

4  Le,l’=him, it  La, l’=her, it  Les =them  Me, m’ = me  Te, t’ =you (sing and informal)  Vous = you (plural and formal)  Nous = us

5  To answer a question w/o repeating the noun  Est-ce que tu as invité Paul? ▪ Oui, je l’ai invité

6  Before the conjugated verb  Je la vois = I see her  Je l’ai vue = I saw her  Unless, it is a sentence with an infinitive  Then, it goes between the 2 verbs ▪ Je vais la voir = I’m going to see her ▪ Je veux la voir = I want to see her

7  Ne…pas, ne…jamais still go around the conjugated verb like always  Insert the pronoun after the ne and before the conjugated verb  Je ne la vois pas  Unless, it’s a sentence with an infinitive, then the pronoun goes after the pas  Je ne vais pas la voir

8  I see Bob.  Je vois Bob.  I see him  Je le vois.  I see a house.  Je vois une maison  I see it.  Je la vois.  I see the girls.  Je vois les filles  I see them.  Je les vois.  I don’t see them.  Je ne les vois pas.

9  Je regarde la télé.  Je la regarde  Nous voyons de bons films.  Nous les voyons  Vous avez cherché votre chien.  Vous l’avez cherché.  Tu vas inviter tes amis.  Tu vas les inviter  Il va regarder le film?  Oui, il va le regarder.  Non, il ne va pas le regarder.  Tu as vu Claire et moi?  Oui, je vous ai vus.  Non, je ne vous ai pas vus.
