2 ÉCOSYSTÈMES Consommateurs

3 Consommateurs: Les consommateurs ne peuvent pas produire leurs propre nourriture. Les Consommateurs sont des organismes qui doivent manger autres organismes (plantes ou animaux) pour se nourrirent.

4 Types de Consommateurs
Les consommateurs sont de diverses tailles et mangent des choses très différentes.

5 Les Herbivores *Les Herbivores sont des consommateurs qui mangent les plantes.

6 Les Carnivores *Les Carnivores sont des consommateurs qui mangent de la viande.

7 Les Omnivores *Les Omnivores sont des consommateurs qui mangent les plantes et la viande.

8 Les Nécrophages Les Nécrophages sont des consommateurs qui mangent les plantes mortes ou les animaux morts.

Consommateurs Primaire (1°) = “Premier mangeures” Consommateurs Secondaire (2°) = “Deuxième mangeures” Consommateurs Tertiaire (3°) = “Troisième mangeures”

10 Qui est le consommateur primaire?
Qui est le consommateur secondaire? La souris est le 1er consommateur (il mange le maïs\ la plante) Le chat est le 2e consommateur (il mange la souris)

13 Mad Cow Disease Mad Cow Disease or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), is a fatal brain disorder that occurs in cattle. It actually causes holes to appear in the brain and eventually results in death.

14 Mad Cow Disease You can only get the disease from eating infected animals. If cows are herbivores that eat grass, how did Mad Cow Disease happen?

15 Industrial Farming Practices:
Industrial style farming focuses on ways to make the most meat for the least amount of cost.

16 The Problem Farmers started feeding animal byproducts (brain, nerve tissue, bones) from slaughter houses to cows.

17 Mad Cow discovered 1986 Cows with BSE became ill and couldn’t walk or stand. Farmers wanted to get rid of them yet still make some money so they were sold for meat. This infected meat entered the food chain. The by-products were fed to other cows

18 Mad Cow Disease and Humans The Meatrix
1996: discovered that BSE can infect humans 1997 FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and CFDA (Canadian Food & Drug Administration) bans feeding mammalian by-products to cows (but feeding cows poultry and fish is still alive) The use of animal protein to feed pigs, chicken and other poultry is still allowed. The only way to know is by labeling or to know the farmer and ask!
