2 Forming the past participle of regular verbs -ER verbs Delete the -er and add an é -IR verbs Delete the -ir and add an i -RE verbs Delete the -re and add a u Regarder regard é Finir fini Vendre vendu

3 BUT 14 verbs use Être instead. MOST verbs use Avoir to form the passé composé. It may help you to learn them as: MRS VAN DER TRAMP verbs.

5 When the passé composé is formed with Être, the past participle behaves like an adjective. So, if you have a feminine subject (the doer of the verb), you must also have a feminine past participle. eg: Elle est allé (feminine)e If you have a plural subject, you must also have a plural past participle. eg: Ils sont allé (masculine plural) s Il est allé (masculine) Elles sont allé (feminine plural)es
