They are called nouns. They name a place, a object or a person. 2. Did you notice anything? Each noun had UN or UNE before it. Some started with UN and some started with UNE. 3. Why do you think that is? In French nouns are either MASCULINE or FEMININE.

21 LES NOMS A noun (nom) names an object, a person or a place.
In French it is always accompanied by an ARTICLE such as : UN, UNE,DES,LE,LA ou LES. Nouns are either FEMININE or MASCULINE, it is called the gender of a noun Example: un cahier, le cahier une chaise, la chaise Write some more examples of nouns: Masculin Féminin 1 un stylo une règle 2 un bic une feuille 3 un crayon une chaise

22 In the plural you add an S to the noun
un crayon des crayons une chaise des chaises Write some other words in the plural: 1 des cahiers 2 des stylos 3 des tables How do we know the gender of a noun? We need to use a dictionary, the dictionary will tell us if: - we have a noun : n - we have a noun which is feminine: n.f. / n.fem. - we have a noun which is masculine: n.m. / n.masc - we have a noun which is feminine plural: n.f.pl. - we have a noun which is masculine plural: n.m.pl.
