2 Instructions for teachers
This project is a end-of-unit project to allow the students to work independently Its focus is on thinking and organisation skills The students can work on it on their own or in groups The teacher gives some guidance at the beginning of the project, explain his/her expectations and gives a deadline The teacher needs to check on the students’ progress and gives an intermediate feedback if necessary

Project 1 Present a French famous person/artist Instructions Students to choose from a list or make their own choices Pass out a list of required/optional sections, the desired length, and any other guidelines Students write up and turn in ppt presentations, posters Students make a presentation on their famous French person Assessment Students to assess each other’s work through a written format or oral survey Teacher’s assessment Customization This project can be done by individual students, pairs, or groups French/Spanish celebs: teacher should write on the list names of people famous in history, art, everyday life… Sections/Elements: personal information including name, DOB, family situation, job, physical description, personality, impact on the community … Length: beginners level 1-2 / intermediate level 3-4 / advanced level 5 (add tenses) To be adapted by teachers Levels:   Beginners: Pass out a worksheet with section titles and have students do research and fill in the blanks. Intermediates (2nd year) and advanced (3rd year): NC Level 3 to 5 Students work independently. Advanced : add tenses (DOB, childhood, future ambitions…)

4 Instructions to students
Key stage 3 French Votre projet sur une célébrité française (Advanced) Instructions : you need to do a project on a French celeb of your choice. You can work on your own or work in pairs. Format : You can choose 2 forms of presenting your research : a powerpoint presentation or a poster. Remember, originality will get you more points! Contents : Here are some ideas to help you in your research - personal details : name, date of birth, family situation - job and career - physical description and personality - why is this person famous / his/her impact on the community - your opinion : give reasons - any details about what this person did in the past - any details about his/her future plans

5 First step : research You need first to choose who you would like to talk about. To help you, here is a list of French famous people Then decide with your partner how you are going to organise yourself. Do you share the research or do it all together? Then have a look on the internet or in the library to get as much information as possible. Do not forget to find some nice pictures as well!

6 Second step : lay out and presentation
You need then to select which bits of information you would like to keep for your project Then categorise the information according to each subtitle Use your sequencing skills to write down a short biography of that person Discuss and decide how to present your project and which form of presentation is the best adapted to it

The previous slide was for the students : it takes into account self and peer assessment, target setting which are part of AfL You can choose different ways of assessing the work but it should focus on skills and content. I personally do not give a grade but comment on their performance and give targets if necessary.
