He was born with the name Hilaire-Germaine-Edgar Degas. His birth place was Paris, France.

Cont. As a child, Edgar grew up surrounded by music. His mother, Celestine was an opera singer and his father, Auguste often planned recitals in their own home.

5 School and Talent In Paris, Edgar went to school at the  Lycée Louis-le-Grand. Lycée Louis-le-Grand is a school mainly for boys in the secondary school. At this school, he expressed his love for drawing and painting as well.

6 Cont. Without permission this was not possible but, Edgar got permission to copy paintings by certain artists, just at age 18. He made amazing copies of Igres, Raphael and Delacroix. In 1855, he spent three years travelling and studying in Italy to also make replicates of MichealAngelo and Da Vinci’s paintings.

7 “A Painter” To give him the title of “a painter,” Edgar decided to submit three paintings to give to the “All-powerful Salon”. They were French teachers and artists who placed their paintings in public shows.
