1 Notes le 19 avril Le futur simple (The simple future) We have previously learned how to make the future using aller + infinitive. Je vais éplucher ces patates. (I’m going to peel these potatoes.) Elle va faire bouillir de l’eau pour faire des pâtes. (She’s going to boil some water to make some pasta.) This is called le futur proche (the near future) and is used to express actions that are going to take place relatively soon.

2 Le futur simple is used to express events further in the future than le futur proche. Je voyagerai en France cet été. (I’ll travel to France this summer.) Ma copine me cherchera à l’aéroport. (My friend will pick me up at the airport.) Les parents de ma copine me feront un bon dîner. (My friend’s parents will make me a nice dinner.)

5 The future tense is used after quand when the verb in the first clause is in the future. Nous mangerons quand ton père arrivera. (We’ll eat when your father arrives.) Ma mère vous fera un bon repas quand vous serez chez nous. (My mother will make you a good meal when you’re at our place.) On prendra le petit déjeuner quand les enfants iront à l’école. (We’ll have breakfast when the kids go to school.)
