Préférer and Acheter French One Grammar Two Chapter 4

Préférer The verb préférer has the same endings as regular ER verbs but has spelling changes in the stem. Préférer = to prefer  Je préfèrenous préférons  Tu préfèresvous préférez  Il /elle préfèreils/elles préfèrent

Préférer EXAMPLES:  Je préfère l’anglais. I prefer English  Nous préférons l’histoire We prefer history.  They (fem.) prefer biology. Elles préfèrent la biologie.

OTHER VERBS Other verbs that follow the same rules as préférer are:  Espérer = to hope  Répéter = to repeat / to rehearse EXAMPLES  Tu espères. You hope  Il répète. He repeats

ACHETER Like préférer, acheter follows ER verb endings but there are stem changes when conjugated Acheter = to buy  J’achètenous achetons  Tu achètesvous achetez  Il / elle achèteils /elles achètent

ACHETER EXAMPLES Tu achètes une trousse.  You buy a pencil case. Nous achetons un livre.  We buy a book. They (fem.) buy a binder.  Elles achètent un classeur.

OTHER VERBS Other verbs that follow the same rules as acheter are:  Amener = to bring along someone  Emmener = to take along someone  Lever = to raise  Promener = to take for a walk Example:  Je promène un chien I take a dog for a walk.
