AVOIR – TO HAVE “Avoir” is the infinitive form of the verb “To Have” In order to use it with a subject pronoun (pronom sujet), we must conjugate it. It is an irregular verb, so it is up to you to memorize the different conjugations in present tense!
J’AI – 1 ST PERSON SINGULAR Originally, it would be Je ai, but because there are two vowels side by side, we contract it to “J’ai” Translation: I have J’ai un chien
TU AS – 2 ND PERSON SINGULAR Translation: You have Tu as un chien

VOUS AVEZ – 2 ND PERSON PLURAL Translation: You (guys) have / Y’all have You (formal) have Vous avez un chien
ILS ONT – 3 RD PERSON PLURAL Translation: They have They = A group of all males or A group of people with at least 1 male Ils ont un chien
