Notes for teacher. You can just use slides 2-5 if you wish. If you want to do the practical activity (slides 6-8) you will need to: print off Slide 6 in A3 size (one sheet for each pair or small group) Print off on to card enough copies of both Slides 7 & 8 for each pair or small group. There are 2 sets of card on each slide so for a class of 32 who are working in pairs you will need to print off 8 copies. These then need to be cut up into mini cards for the activity, each pair having one set. Slide 2. Use Slide 1 to remind pupils where they are in the world to contextualize the verse. Slide 3 Pupils read the verse (or you read it to them and they repeat). The pictures round the edges help with understanding. Invite them to work out the meaning themselves (pairs or groups). Slide 4 This shows pupils the countries where the things in the poem come from. Invite pupils to come up to the whiteboard and point to where they think the countries in the list are on the map. Slide 5 As you click through this slide the countries will be revealed one by one The next 3 slides are for pairwork or groupwork Each pair or small group have a large A3 sheet (slide 6) and 2 sets of card from slides 7 & 8. They place the cards in the correct place on the A3 sheet and then write in the name of the country on the dotted line

Read this poem out to the class clearly and slowly, clicking to bring the pictures on individually to support understanding of each line. Worth perhaps eliciting what the previous song and this poem have in common? Then tell them that they are going to need to be ACTIVE and noticing and use their memory skills as you are going to read the poem to them again, given them 2 mins to read it again to themselves and then give the a version with gaps for them to put back together. Flick forward to show them what their task will look like.
