Eg. Il est deux heures et demie – half past two Say the o’clock bit first and then add et demie Eg. Il est deux heures et demie – half past two

Eg. Il est deux heures et quart – quarter past two Say the o’clock bit first and then add et quart Eg. Il est deux heures et quart – quarter past two

Five past: Say the o’clock bit first and then add cinq Eg. Il est deux heures cinq – five past two Only use et when it’s quarter or half past!!

EASY!!! Ten past two deux heures dix Twenty past two deux heures vingt Twenty-five past two deux heures vingt-cinq EASY!!!

Now the other side of the clock. Not quarter past but quarter to ……………

Eg. Il est trois heures moins le quart – quarter to three Say the o’clock bit first and then add moins le quart Eg. Il est trois heures moins le quart – quarter to three

Five to: Say the o’clock bit first and then add moins cinq Eg. Il est trois heures moins cinq – five to three Only use moins le when it’s quarter to!!

EASY!!! Ten to three trois heures moins dix Twenty to three trois heures moins vingt Twenty-five to three trois heures moins vingt-cinq EASY!!!

Digital time is even easier:

First count up to 55 in multiples of five. 5 cinq 35 trente-cinq 10 dix 40 quarante 15 quinze 45 quarante-cinq 20 vingt 50 cinquante 25 vingt-cinq 55 cinquante-cinq 30 trente

Say the o’clock bit first and then add the multiple of five 5.05 cinq heures cinq 6.10 six heures dix 7.15 sept heures quinze 8.20 huit heures vingt 9.25 neuf heures vingt-cinq

Don’t forget that the 24 hour clock is digital 10.30 dix heures trente 11.35 onze heures trente-cinq 12.40 midi quarante Don’t forget that the 24 hour clock is digital 13.45 treize heures quarante-cinq -1.45 in the afternoon 21.50 vingt et une heures cinquante 9.50 at night 22.55 vingt-deux heures cinquante-cinq 10.55 at night
