“Faire” followed by infinitive When “faire” is followed by the infinitive verb, the two verbs form a single entity. Ex. Tu as fait réchauffer le dîner? Oui, je l’ai fait réchauffer. Ex. Annie a fait tomber le vase? Non, elle ne l’a pas fait tomber.

Indirect Object Pronouns Stand for PERSONS ONLY Always introduced by “à” Ex. Tu as parlé à Roger? Non, je ne lui ai pas parlé.

Direct Object Pronouns Replace direct objects placed directly after the verb without any preposition. Representing things or persons Ex. Vous avez pris vos livres? Oui, nous les avons pris. Preceeded by a definite article Ex. Tu veux le dictionnaire? Non, je ne le veux pas. Possessive adjective or Demonstrative adjective Ex. Marie a vu ce film? Non, elle ne l’a pas vu.

Pronoun “EN” Replaces a direct object Representing a thing or person Ex. Vous avez bu du thé? Oui, nous en avons bu Preceeded by a partitive article Ex. Paul a une soeur? Oui, il en a une. An indefinite article or expression of quantity Ex. Tu as beaucoup de travail? Oui, j’en ai beaucoup. NOTE: “un” and “une” dropped in negative sentence. Replaces thing NOT person – preceeded by preposition “de” and any article, possessive or demonstrative adjective Ex. Tu as besoin de mes notes? Oui, j’en ai besoin.

Pronoun “Y” Used to replace….. Noun representing a thing, and preceeded by “à”. Ex. Tu as répondu à sa lettre? Oui, j’y ai répondu. Preposition indicating position or direction and a noun or disjunctive pronoun. Ex. La photo est sur la table? Oui, elle y est. Preposition “chez” and a noun or disjunctive pronoun. Ex. Tu vas chez ta soeur? Oui, j’y vais. Infinitive verb and its objects, following verbs of motion (aller, retourner, penser) Ex. Tu as pensé à emporter une carte? Oui, j’y ai pensé.

Disjunctive Pronouns Stand for persons only, used to replace….. Nouns following prepositions (de, avec, à côté de, etc) Ex. Vous avez besoin de Marie? Oui, nous avons besoin d’elle. Verb “être à” (to belong to) Ex. Cette auto est à Pierre? Oui, elle est à lui. Nouns following expressions “c’est & ce sont” Ex. C’est Sylvie? Non, ce n’est pas elle.
