Pronouns Pronouns are words used to replace nouns or proper nouns . They are really useful to avoid repetition.

How can we spot when we need an indirect pronoun? Verbs which require an indirect pronoun are followed by the preposition à in French, eg répondre à. In French these pronouns can only refer to a person, not a thing

Indirect means that the object of the verb is linked to the verb by a preposition, usually à 4. The indirect pronoun goes in the same position as the direct pronoun (i.e. directly before the verb – or the auxiliary in the perfect tense) 5.
