VNIO Library This is the library in Vietnam specializing in oceanography. VNIO Lib has about 6.000 books and proceedings; 885 periodical titles and reprints; but now we have about 60 curent journals from 55 foreign agencies and organizations of over 30 countries; 728 maps; 940 microfilms.

The subjects that my library collection covers is Oceanography, Marine physics, Marine geology, Marine ecology and encironment, Marine biology, Marine environment, Marine biochemistry, Marine living resources, Marine biochemistry, Aquculture biotechnology. The uses of my Lib are: scientists of my Institute, all scientists and students in Vietnam or oversea

The first publications of my Institute was published in 1926: Chabanaud M. P., 1926. Inventaire de la faune Ichthyologique de l’Indochine; Rose M., 1926.- Quelques remarques sur le plankton des co6tes d’Annam et du Golf de Siam.

Construction of library building Library building built in 1922. Brick walls Cement tiled roof Plaster ceilling Before, the building was higher than the yard outside the building. Now, building equal to the outside brick courtyard, so water can flow into the building .

COLLECTION OF RARE BOOKS The Institute of Oceanography Library was founded on 1922, until now it is the specialized library on oceanography in Viet Nam. And it is famous for the collections of original books on oceanography of the world published from 18th, 19th century.

My library has many windows, but it’s very hot My library has many windows, but it’s very hot. – My library is near the port transportation, we always open the window for air circulation, so much dust from the port come to library. – A lot of books in my lib are damaged by termites. My library have received 3 tons (3000 kg) of journals from Aarhus University in Demark, do we must to spray pesticides or anti-fungal chemical? I am very interested in questions How can I mend a torn page? (the best way to mend a torn page); How to reattach a book cover?; How can I preserve newspapes clippings?
