ME means me Or to me TE means you or to you
Nous means us or to us Vous means you or yall or to you or to yall
LE means him/it LA means also her/it LES means them
BUT… LUI means to him/to it LUI can also mean to her/to it LEUR means to them
REVIEW: DOP=Direct object pronoun IDOP=Indirect object pronoun DOP Me me (Eng) Te you Le, L him, it La, l her, it Nous us Vous you (yall) Les them IDOP Me to me (Eng) Te to you Lui to him,to it Lui to her, to it Nous to us Vous to you (yall) Leur to them (f&m) Note how some are the same in DOP and IDOP and some are NOT. For the same ones, the context of the sentences will help you to figure them out.
How do you place them? He sees her. Il la voit. (He her sees) Remember: the object pronoun is between the subject and verb.
In a simple sentence He loves her. Il laime. HE HER LOVES.
In a negative sentence He does not love her. Il ne laime pas.
Direct pronouns come in front of the verb, unlike in English : Il les aime.He loves them. Je peux la voir. I can see her.
Positive- affirmative command In AFFIRMATIVE commands, the object pronoun comes AFTER the verb and is attached with a hyphen. EX: 1. Invite-les au concert! (Invite them to the concert)
But in negative commands…. It goes in front of the verb. Ex: Do not invite them. Ne les invite pas.
Practice Tu connais Patrick? Tu vois souvent Anne? Tu connais mes copains? Tu invites tes copines? Oui, je le connais. Yes, I know him. Oui, je la vois souvent. Yes, I see her often. Oui, je les connais bien. Yes, I know them well. Oui, je les invite. Yes, I invite them.
Placement when 2 verbs …. Subject + object pronoun + infinitive…. We are going to see them tomorrow. Nous allons les voir demain.
So what do these sentences mean? 1.Il la voit. 2.Elle leur donne des bonbons. 3.Je le bois. 4.Nous lui parlons. 5.Vous nous voyez.
Translate Je ne te vois pas. Ne me quitte pas. Donnez-moi du fromage. Ne me donnez pas de fromage! Je vais te donner du pain! Elle va nous voir! Nous nallons pas vous voir.
1. Je donne du chocolat à ma cousine. Je lui donne du chocolat. 2. Je parle à Catherine. Je lui parle. 3. Je donne des bonbons à mes amis. Je leur donne des bonbons. 4. Il parle à Vanessa. Il lui parle.
