Lesson 1: From birth to death Objective: to be able to understand the basic footsteps of a soldier attacking the castle TALK: “la violence, c’est nécessaire?” Introduce language through the young soldiers sad movements from birth to death by i) Allowing pupils to search for similarities in meanings (in groups/pairs) ii) And to answer (in English) the prompt/question sheet provided Pit stop – share with a partner 3 of the actions of the soldier which you can easily remember. Match up English/French of each of the soldiers movement in life. Plenary – we have discovered 10 actions in the life of the soldier from birth to death. Can you give them in English, then French following the circle of his life.

L’histoire d’un soldat Je m’appelle Arthur. Je suis né soldat le 3 septembre À l’âge de 17 ans je suis allé à Chambord et je suis entré dans l’armée. Je suis resté à Chambord deux semaines – puis, l’attaque du château Blois! Je suis arrivé au chateau à cheval. Mais après quelques heures je suis monté les murailles en pierre. C’était difficile et je suis tombé dans la douve! Je suis parti de la douve avec difficulté. Puis je suis venu à la motte. L’attaque était féroce – très, très féroce et je suis mort, soldat courageux, à l’age de 17 ans!
