The Boot Rule The ‘boot rule’ is where the spelling change occurs in all persons except nous and vous. It is called the boot rule because, when the verbs are laid out 3x2, the verbs that undergo the spelling changes form a boot shape.

Reflexive Verbs

Reflexive Verbs A verb is reflexive when it expresses an action that the subject performs on him/her/itself. Therefore “he washes himself” is reflexive. The same verb can exist in a reflexive and in a non-reflexive from.

Reflexive Verbs In English reflexive verbs are followed by a pronoun ending in self. For example to burn oneself. In French the reflexive pronouns se (s’ before a vowel) such as se presenter (to introduce oneself.) During the conjugation, this pronoun changes.
