What is an infinitive? chanter manger étudier travailler jouer -All of these are infinitive forms of verbs. The infinitive of a verb is what it looks like before it has been conjugated to go with different subjects.

We can say what we like to do by using the verb “aimer” + the infinitive of another verb. SUBJECT+ PRESENT TENSE + INFINITIVE (of “aimer”)

How do we conjugate “aimer” for the present tense? aimer is a regular -er verb: So we remove the -er and add back the endings… je +e tu +es il/elle +e nous +ons vous +ez Ils/elles +ent

aimer j’aime tu aimes il aime elle aime nous aimons vous aimez ils aiment elles aiment

Now we add the infinitive… SUBJECT+PRESENT TENSE+INFINITIVE (aimer) Nous aimons manger. We like to eat.

Il aime jouer au foot. He likes to play soccer.

Il aime jouer au foot aussi. He likes to play soccer too.

Ils aiment danser. They like to dance.

Elles aiment danser aussi. They like to dance too.

Il s’appelle Michael Phelps. Il aime nager.

Elle aime chanter.

Elle aime téléphoner.

Ils aiment jouer au basket.

We can make these sentences negative too… Je n’aime pas étudier.
