Les verbes qui se terminent en -ER (-ER verbs)

French has both regular and irregular verbs. (English does too, for that matter.)

Regular verbs are divided up into three groups by their endings in the infinitive. They are: -ER, -IR and –RE

An infinitive is the unconjugated form of the verb.

In English the infinitive is the “to” form of the verb: to eat, to dance, to walk, to speak, etc…

In French 1, we learn how to conjugate the most common group of regular verbs, the –ER verbs.

Commençons avec le verb AIMER. Ça veut dire “to like” ou “to love”.

Aimer- to like or to love J’aime Tu aim Il aim Elle aim On aim Nous aim Vous aim Ils aim Elles aim

Aimer- to like or to love J’aime Tu aimes Il aim Elle aim On aim Nous aim Vous aim Ils aim Elles aim

Aimer- to like or to love J’aime Tu aimes Il aime Elle aime On aime Nous aim Vous aim Ils aim Elles aim

Aimer- to like or to love J’aime Tu aimes Il aime Elle aime On aime Nous aimons Vous aim Ils aim Elles aim

Aimer- to like or to love J’aime Tu aimes Il aime Elle aime On aime Nous aimons Vous aimez Ils aim Elles aim

Aimer- to like or to love J’aime Tu aimes Il aime Elle aime On aime Nous aimons Vous aimez Ils aiment Elles aiment

Now, look closely at the verb endings. All –ER verbs will have these same, exact endings. Memorize them. Use them. They are : je-e tu-es il/elle/on-e nous-ons vous-ez ils/elles-ent

Parlons de la prononciation... J’aime Tu aimes Il aime Elle aime On aime Nous aimons Vous aimez Ils aiment Elles aiment

Parler= to speak (to talk) Je

Parler= to speak (to talk) Je parle Tu
