CONVERSATION TOPICS Leisure Home life Education/work

Leisure Qu’est ce que tu fais le week end? (What do you do at the week end?) Normalement, le week end je joue au tennis et je regarde la télé. Mon programme préféré, c’est ‘Friends’ parce que c’est marrant. J’écoute de la musique aussi. Listen carefully to the question in order to recognise the present tense list a couple of activities + detail/opinion Add another activity if you can

Quels sont tes passe-temps favoris? (What are your favourite hobbies?) Je joue au tennis une fois par semaine avec mes copains. Je joue aussi avec mon ordinateur avec mon frère. J’adore ça! Add frequency detail (une fois par semaine) Add who you do the activity with (avec mes copains/mon frère) Adding information like time/people/opinions are good to extend potentially short answers.

Tu aimes faire du shopping? (Do you like shopping?) J’adore faire du shopping avec ma soeur. En général, j’achète des vêtements et des CDs. J’aime aller à Meadowhall et en ville. Add who you do the activity with (ma copine/mon frère/ma soeur) Adding information like time/people/opinions are good to extend potentially short answers.

Home life Qu’est ce que tu as mangé hier soir? (What did you eat last night?) Hier soir, j’ai mangé du poulet et des frites. C’était délicieux! J’ai bu du coca aussi. Recognise the past tense! Use the words in the question to start your answer Mention a couple of items you ate + opinion Add another piece of information if you can- aussi

Qu’est ce que tu vas faire ce soir pour aider à la maison? (What are you going to do tonight to help around the house?) Ce soir, je vais passer l’aspirateur et je vais faire la vaisselle. Je n’aime pas faire la vaisselle. Je vais sortir la poubelle aussi. Recognise the future tense! Use words from the question to begin. Give one or two activities + opinion If you can, give a 2 nd activity- aussi

Décris une journée typique. (describe a typical day) Je me lève à 7 heures. Je me lave et je prends le petit déjeuner à 8 heures. Je prends le bus. Le collège commence à 9 heures. J’ai 5 cours par jour. Le collège finit à 3 heures. Description questions are a great opportunity to speak for a while longer. List the activities you do in a logical order Simplify times to hours Keep your sentences short but carefully and accurately structured.

Education/work Décris ton collège. (describe your school) Mon collège s’appelle Notre Dame. Il se situe à Sheffield. Il y a mille (1000) élèves et cent (100) professeurs. C’est grand. Il y a aussi des laboratoires, une bibliothèque et une cantine. J’aime mon collège parce qu’ il y a beaucoup de choses à faire. Description questions are a great opportunity to speak for a while longer. List a few things you will have thought of before hand. Be selective in what you will mention (pronunciation/memory to remember words) Add opinions

Qu’est ce que tu vas faire après le collège? (What are you going to do after you finish school?) Après le collège, je vais aller à l’université et je vais étudier les Sciences. Je voudrais être docteur. List a few things you will have thought of before hand. Be selective in what you will mention (pronunciation/memory to remember words) Remember, you don’t have to tell the truth You will use the future time frame

Quelles sont tes matières préférées? (What are you favourite subjects?) Mes matières préférées sont les maths car c’est facile et l’anglais car le prof est sympa. Je n’aime pas la technologie car c’est difficile. Remember, you don’t have to tell the truth You can extend your answer by saying what subjects you don not like. Justify why you like or dislike a subject.

Last few tips… Structure your answer Say what you can say, not necessarily what you would like to say. Ask to repeat if necessary- ‘pouvez vous répéter s’il-vous-plait?’ Listen carefully for the tense of the question. Add opinions whenever possible and justify if you can

OPINIONS positive/negative Try to vary your opinions as much as possible- here are a few examples: C’est facile- it’s easy C’est difficile- it’s difficult Le prof est sympa/ strict- the teacher is kind/strict C’est ennuyeux- it’s boring C’est super-it’s great C’est délicieux-it’s delicious C’est bon-it’s nice C’est bien- it’s good C’est nul-it’s rubbish C’est trop cher- it’s too expensive Ce n’est pas cher- it’s not expensive
