Les normes: Communication 1.2 Comparisons 4.2  Les questions essentielles:  What is a subject pronoun?  What are the singular subject pronouns in French?

Singular Subject Pronouns:  Come before the verb  Are the ‘doer’ of the action  May replace subject nouns  Singular = referring to one person or thing

 Use ‘je’ when talking about yourself = I  Use ‘tu’ when talking to a friend, family member or pet = you  ‘il’ = he, it  ‘elle’ = she, it

 ‘Il’ can be used to replace a boy’s name, it can also replace a masculine noun:  Le livre est sur le bureau  Il est sur le bureau (It is on the desk)

 ‘Elle’ can be used to replace a girl’s name, it can also replace a feminine noun:  La calculatrice est sur le bureau  Elle est sur le bureau (It is on the desk)
