INVERSION -formal way of asking a question -Invert (flip-flop) the subject PRONOUN and verb -Elle danse bien Danse-t- elle bien? -The –t- is used with the pronouns il, elle et on when the verb does not end in a “t” of “d” -Vend-il son vélo? -When a noun is the subject, the noun is retained and the corresponding subject pronoun is used for inverstion: -Jean quitte-t-il la classe? -When answering an inversion question, be sure to un invert: -Oui, il quitte la class. -Non il ne vend pas son vélo

INVERSION Question words may be used with inversion -They are placed in front of the inversion construction -Ex: Quand Jean quitte-t-il la classe? -Comment danse-t-elle? -Inversions with “JE” is limited to a few expressions: -Ai-je? (Have I?) -Puis-je ? (May I?) -Sais-je? (Do I know?) -Suis-je? (Am I?)
