Transcription de la présentation:

Le futur antérieur In French you use the future perfect (le futur antérieur) to say what you will have done before you do another action in the future.

Qu’est-ce que tu auras déjà fait avant de te coucher?

Le futur antérieur In French the future perfect is a compound tense because it is ‘ composed ’ of two parts: the auxiliary or ‘ helper ’ and the past participle.

Verbs with avoir The future perfect is usually formed by using the future tense of avoir and the past participle of the verb, just as in English. You must then know the verb avoir

Le verbe avoir SingularSingular J ’ auraiI shall/will have Tu aurasYou will have Il/elle auraHe/she will have PluralPlural Nous auronsWe shall have Vous aurezYou will have Ils/elles auront They will have

THE VERB AVOIR in the future Let ’ s practice: add the right part of avoir to them: J’ fait mes devoirs Nous fini l’exercice. Il joué au football. Vous regardé une vidéo. Ils mangé au Mc Do. Tu choisi ton livre. Elle mangé un sandwich. Nous n’ pas vu le film. vous vu le film? Ils acheté un CD. Click on the picture to check your answers

Now check your answers 1. J ’ aurai fait mes devoirs. 2. Nous aurons fini l ’ exercice. 3. Il aura joué au football. 4. Vous aurez regardé une vidéo. 5. Ils auront mangé au Mc Do. 6. Tu auras choisi ton livre. 7. Elle aura mangé un sandwich. 8. Nous n ’ aurons pas vu le film. 9. Aurez vous vu le film? 10. Ils auront acheté un CD.

Here are the past participles of some irregular verbs: avoir  eudire  ditprendre  pris boire  buécrire  écritapprendre  appris lire  lufaire  faitcomprendre  compris voir  vumettre  mis venir  venu Look for patterns to help you learn them

Verbs with être As we have already seen, in the perfect tenses most verbs take avoir. However, some take être

How to conjugate être Singular Je seraiI shall be Tu seras you will be Il/elle sera he/she will be Plural Nous serons we shall be Vous serezyou will be Ils/elles seront they will be

THE VERB ÊTRE Let ’ s practice: add the right part of être to them: Je venu(e). Il entré. Nous arrivés. Les enfants sortis Vous restés à la maison. Paul tombé dans la rue. Maman montée au premier étage. Ma soeur allée à la piscine. Mon père descendu dans la cave. Murielle née à Paris. Click on the picture to check your answers

Now check your answers 1. Je serai venu(e). 2. Il sera entré. 3. Nous serons arrivés. 4. Les enfants seront sortis 5. Vous serez restés à la maison. 6. Paul sera tombé dans la rue. 7. Maman sera montée au premier étage. 8. Ma soeur sera allée à la piscine. 9. Mon père sera descendu dans la cave. 10. Murielle sera née à Paris.

Remember! Notice that with verbs which use être as the auxiliary verb, the past participle agrees with the subject (the person or thing doing the action).

Add -e if the subject is feminine Entrer  Elle sera entrée

Add -s if the subject is masculine plural (or includes masculine and feminine) Arriver  Ils seront arrivés

Add –es if the subject is feminine plural Partir  elles seront parties

The following verbs form the passé composé with être. It is easier to learn them as pairs: Aller/venir*to go/to come Arriver/partirto arrive/to leave Entrer/sortirto enter/to go out Monter/descendreto go up/to go Naître*/mourir*to be born/to die *The past participle of these verbs are venu, né, mort. All the rest are regular! All the verbs made up of these verbs, e.g. rentrer, repartir, also take être, as do tomber, rester and retourner.

Reflexive Verbs Don’t forget that reflexive verbs form the future perfect with être: Se réveiller → je me serai réveillé → Elle se sera réveillée

There you go. The perfect tenses have not got any secrets for you any more. If you apply these rules carefully you will always get them perfect.
