10 What is a preposition? Prepositions are words that describe the relationship between two nouns. They cannot stand alone. Example: Book and elephant - simply putting these two words next to each other doesn’t make sense because we don’t understand the relationship between them. The book is near the elephant. - Using the preposition “near” helps us understand the relationship of these two nouns.

11 Les Prépositions en français When you use these prepositions (the ones on your list), you must include the definite article. It’s the same in English! → The cat is under the table. Le chat est sous la table. REVIEW: Definite articles mean “THE” in English. In French, they are le, la, & les.
