Who are we? Where are we from? We are three students who come from a little city on the Northwest of Spain, called León.

Where do we study? We study in a high school whose name is ‘Padre Isla’ ‘IES PADRE ISLA’

It has lots of beautiful places with a lot of history. There are several monumets: León’s cathedral, St Isidore’s Basilica, The San Marcos Parador, The ‘Botines’ Building, The Roman Walls…

The front is one of the most important from the Spanish Reinassance. On the front there is Greek and Latin figures and characters from the Spanish History. It was used as a prison on the 19th Century and on the Spanish Civil War on 1936.

The Botines Building It was designed by the architect Gaudí in the Neoclassical style. The windows are inspired in some of the Cathedral’s windows.

It has got some parts under the Romanesque style and others under the Baroque style. Its construction was ordered by Fernando and Sancha, on the 11th Century.

Originally they were like a square round the city. Later it was surrounded by buildings and then deformed by the restorations of Alfonso V and Alfonso IX with the opening up of new entrances to the city.

The Grain Square -It is an important place of the ancient part of the city of León. - The floor is all made of old stones. - The cereal market used to take place in this square, where the people selled wheat and other things.

Damp Quarter It is in the middle of the Medieval city and its centre is San Martín Square. In this place you can taste the local wines with various, big and delicious “tapas”. “Barrio Húmedo” in Spanish

León’s Plaza Mayor (or Main Square) - León’s Plaza Mayor is near the Damp Quarter. - At first it was named “Bread Square”, because of the multiple bakeries which were around it. - It is still used by traders, as it was centuries ago, to hold their market there. They do it twice every week.
