2 You already know several different verb tenses, including… … le présent … le future proche … le passé composé You have also been exposed to another tense that has nothing to do with when an event occurs. This tense is used to ask / demand / command someone to do something. It is called … l’impératif

3 Whether you are politely asking someone to pass you something at the dinner table, or demanding that someone clean up that mess this instant!, you always use the imperative tense. In French, there is no subject used in the imperative tense. For example… (you[s]) speak up !  finish your[pl] vegetables 

4 The imperative tense is formed, as follows : parlerfinirvendreallervenirfaire (tu) (vous) (nous)

5 When using pronom complément, or object pronoun, the object goes after the verb, and me and te are replaced by their stress-pronoun equivalents. The verb and object are connected by a hyphen. Call me tonight Invite me on Saturday! Bring us some tea!

6 When the imperative verb is in the negative, the object pronouns come before the verb. Don’t call me tomorrow! Don’t invite me Sunday. Don’t bring us any coffee.
