2 Ne…pas To make a sentence negative, normally we place “ne” before the verb and “pas” after the verb Ex: Je n’ai pas de devoir Ex: Sabine n’est pas malade aujourd’hui. Ex: Nous ne sommes pas fatigués

3 Ne…jamais To say “It never” we place “ne” before the verb and “jamais” after the verb. We omit “pas”. Ex: Je n’étudie jamais vendredi soir. Ex: Il ne pleut jamais au sahara. Ex: Mon chien ne mange jamais des carrottes.

4 Ne…plus To say “no longer” in French, we place “ne” before the verb and “plus” after. We eliminate the “pas” Ex: George n’est plus parasseux parce qu’il fait ses devoirs chaque soir. Ex: Nous ne parlons plus anglais dans le cours de français.

5 Ne…personne We use “ne…personne” to express no one in French. “ne” goes before the verb and “personne” after the verb. Ex: Il n’y a personne au bal ce soir. Ex: Comme il est vendredi soir, Il n’a y personne à la bibliotheque.

6 Ne…rien We use “ne…rien” to say “nothing” or “anything” in a negative sense in French. “Pas” is never used in combination with “rien” Ex: Il n’y a rien à faire. Ex: Je n’ai rien à vous dire.

7 Indefinite articles (un, une, des) in negative sentences In a negative sentence, “un, une, des” become “de”. Ex: Tu as du devoir? Je n’ai pas de devoir. Ex: Vous avez une soeur? Non, je n’ai pas de soeur. Ex: Sabine, a-t-elle des tantes? Non, elle n’a pas de tantes.
