2 The most common way to ask a yes-or-no question in French is intonation:
Tu aimes ce professeur? Vous dansez bien?

3 Elles partent à quelle heure? Il parle avec qui?
When using a question word with intonation, the question word (où, quand, qui, comment, etc.) will go at the end: Elles partent à quelle heure? Il parle avec qui? Tu vas à l’école comment?

4 Another way to ask a question is to use “est-ce que” (is it that):
Est-ce que vous habitez à Paris? Est-ce qu’il est un bon élève?

5 Quand est-ce que tu vas à Paris? Où est-ce que nous allons?
When using a question word with est-ce que, the question word will come first: Quand est-ce que tu vas à Paris? Où est-ce que nous allons? Pourquoi est-ce que tu pars?

6 Aimez-vous l’histoire?
Another way of asking a question is inversion: Parlez-vous français? Aimez-vous l’histoire?

7 When using inversion with a question word, the question word comes first:
Avec qui habites-tu? Comment allez-vous? Quand vas-tu?

8 Comment vont-ils au lycée? Pourquoi habitent-elles à Paris?
When the subject pronouns on/il(s)/elle(s) are inverted, there is a “t” sound between the subject and verb only if your verb ends in a vowel. Où va-t-il? Avec qui parle-t-elle? Comment vont-ils au lycée? Pourquoi habitent-elles à Paris?

9 À quelle heure êtes-vous allé(e)(s)?
When using inversion in the passé composé, the helping verb is inverted: Combien a-t-il payé? À quelle heure êtes-vous allé(e)(s)?

10 Pouvez-vous parler espagnol?
With verb+infinitive, the conjugated verb is inverted. Pouvez-vous parler espagnol? Aimes-tu danser?

11 Marie va-t-elle au cinéma? Combien le carnet coûte-t-il?
With a noun subject, both the noun and the pronoun il(s)/elle(s) are used. Marie va-t-elle au cinéma? Combien le carnet coûte-t-il? Les garçons vont-ils, aussi?

12 To ask for confirmation, use the expression “n’est-ce pas?”
Tu aimes ce prof, n’est-ce pas? C’est facile, n’est-ce pas? Le français est super, n’est-ce pas?
