9 How to form the passé composé To form the pass é compos é, you use the correct conjugation of avoir(it agrees with the subject) and add the past participle of the verb that expresses the action that was performed. Pierre a jou é le foot la derni è re semaine. (Pierre played football last week.) Nous avons choisi un chiot hier. (We chose a puppy yesterday. )

11 To make the verb negative in the passé composé, you use ne….pas. You make the helping verb negative, not the past participle. To do this put the ne in front of avoir and pas after avoir. The past participle is then outside the negative verb phrase. Negative Je nai pas regardé la télé hier soir.
