2 *An object is a noun or pronoun that indicates towards WHAT or WHOM the action of the verb is directed. *In English, direct & indirect object PRONOUNS will also come after the verb. * In English, direct & indirect objects come AFTER the verb. Paul writes a letter. Mike bought a new CD. Alicia sees us.* The boys watch the fireworks in awe. Stephanie marries David.

3 What is a… DIRECT OBJECT in English???
A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb directly. There is NO preposition between the verb & the noun (or pronoun) object. The direct object will answer the question: Who? What? *Identify the verb. *Ask either qui? or quoi? in relation to the verb. *The answer will be your direct object.*

4 Can you find the direct object?
Wealthy people spend their money on artwork. My friend bakes cookies often. The city council candidate delivered a rousing speech yesterday. The hurricane damaged some boats in the harbor. AT&T sent a bill to Jill. Earl drives a truck to work. Everyone loves football. Sam eats a sandwich for lunch everyday.

5 un complément d’objet direct??
Qu’est-ce que c’est un complément d’objet direct?? *Le complément d'objet direct est un mot (ou groupe de mots) qui se joint au verbe SANS PREPOSITION pour en compléter le sens.

6 **C’est le même chose en anglais!!!
*En français, les objets directs se trouve APRÈS le verbe: Ils achètent le gâteau. . Pierre mange une pomme. . Tu conduis une voiture. . Je regarde le défilé. **C’est le même chose en anglais!!!

7 ***Rappel:*** . Quand on ne veut pas répéter un mot, on peut le remplacer par un pronom.

8 Un pronom peut être un complément d’objet direct (COD)
Un pronom peut être un complément d’objet direct (COD). On utilise le pronom COD quand on veut éliminer la répétition.

9 Le pronom COD se trouve AVANT le verbe qu’il complète. Je t’aime.

13 Identifie l’objet direct.
Ils vont regarder le défilé. Tu nous invites tous? C’est très gentil! Je vous invite tous chez moi! Je la regarde. J’adore le bouquet de fleurs! On les achète pour la soirée. Mon père va beaucoup l’aimer. Nous allons le voir.

An indirect object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb indirectly. There is the preposition to between the verb & the noun (or pronoun) object. (The preposition relates the object to the verb.) The indirect object will answer the question: To whom? For whom? **Think of the indirect object as the person that BENEFITS from the action of the verb.

15 Can you find the indirect object?
He gave the painting to the museum. I offered John a cupcake. They sent a postcard to Bill. Jaisen bought a bike for his son. Daniel fixes computers for his family. She gave me her notes. The students ask the teacher many questions. **Think of the indirect object as the person that BENEFITS from the action of the verb. In other words, when something or someone gets the direct object, that thing or person is the indirect object!

Qu’est-ce que c’est un complément d’objet indirect?? *Le complément d'objet indirect est un mot (ou groupe de mots) qui se joint au verbe AVEC UNE PREPOSITION pour en compléter le sens. Il répond aux questions: À qui? À quoi?

**la personne avec qui on fait une transaction peut être un complément d’objet indirect. (Dans ces cas, il n’y a pas de COD)

Souvent on a un objet direct et un objet indirect dans la même phrase. Dans ce cas, on mets les pronoms dans cet ordre: me / m’ te / t’ nous vous le la l’ les lui leur 1st 2nd 3rd

22 J’envoie cette carte à mon ami.
Je l’envoie à mon ami. Je lui envoie cette carte. Je la lui envoie. Michel les donne à ses parents. Michel leur donne les ballons. Michel les leur donne. Michel donne les ballons à ses parents.

23 Maman va offrir les fleurs à Lucie.
Maman va les offrir à Lucie. Maman va lui offrir les fleurs. Maman va les lui offrir. Oui, nous l’envoyons à oncle Marcel. Oui, nous lui envoyons l’invitation. Oui, nous la lui envoyons. Maman et Papa, vous envoyez l’invitation à oncle Marcel?
