This is aimed ay Year 8, to introduce the Perfect tense, first with AVOIR verbs

2 QU’EST-CE QUE C’EST ? It’s a 2 part form of the VERB.
It allows you to talk about what has HAPPENED in the PAST.

3 FORMATION TWO You need… BUILDING BLOCKS
The idea is to stress, imprint early in students’ mind that you need 2 components to build the perfect tense as too often they remember the verb with different ending but quickly forget the part of avoir or etre.

4 VERB PAST PARTICIPLE form AVOIR in Usually…
You may want to ask students if they remember what form AVOIR takes with JE, TU etc… before putting the next slide. AVOIR Usually…

10 Irregular verbs! Faire: FAIT J’ai fait mes devoirs I did my homework
Avoir: EU Il a eu une bonne idée He had a good idea Être: ÉTÉ Nous avons été en forme. We were in shape.

12 Dr & Mrs Vandertramp These verbs use ETRE instead of AVOIR Example:
Je suis allé Tu es parti Il est descendu

13 Dr & Mrs Vandertramp They also have to match in gender and number with the subject. Example: Elle est sortie Nous sommes restés Elles sont montées
