2 Role? Adjectives in French have the same role as they do in English
Adjectives describe a noun/a pronoun Ex/ The girl is beautiful “Beautiful” = adjective that describes the noun “girl” En français: Ex/ La fille est belle “Belle” = un adjectif qui décrit le nom “fille” (an adjective that describes the noun “girl”)

3 French vs. English The greatest difference (when studying adjectives) between English and French = English adjectives are invariable; they don’t change! French adjectives agree in gender and in number with the (pro)noun it is describing! Gender = masculin / féminin Number = singulier / pluriel Ex. Henry is smart. Jane is smart. The boys are smart. The girls are smart. Ex. Henri est intelligent. Jeanne est intelligente. Les garçons sont intelligents. Les filles sont intelligentes.

4 What to add? and Where? If the noun is … you will be adding … to the end of the adjective! MASCULIN & SINGULIER = MASCULIN & PLURIEL = FÉMININ & SINGULIER = FÉMININ & PLURIEL = Ø – just leave it! This is the original form -S -E -ES masc. & sing. masc. & plur. fém. & sing. fém. & plur. 6 Adjectives that already end with “-E”
For the adjectives that already end in an “-E” in masculin & singulier, we don’t add another E in féminin masc. & sing. masc. & plur. fém. & sing. fém. & plur. 8 Adjectives that end with “-F”

10 Adjectives that end with “-x”
For the adjectives that already end with “-X” in masculin & singulier, we leave them alone for masculin & pluriel (they remain the same). However, for féminin, we take off this last letter and add “-SE” masc. & sing. masc. & plur. fém. & sing. fém. & plur. 11 Adjectives that double the final consonant
There are some adjectives that just don’t want to follow any rules. These like to double the final consonant in the féminin form masc. & sing. masc. & plur. fém. & sing. fém. & plur.
