parmi les secteurs les plus fréquemment cités + susceptibles d'être affectés par les CVC (Rosenzweig et Parry, 1994; Smit et al., 1996) L’agriculture l'un des secteurs les plus importants au Canada Depuis le début des années 1980s, l'agriculture canadienne est devenue le point focal de plusieurs études pionnières sur le changement climatique (Bryant et al., 2000) La recherche pendant les années 1980s a souligné la nécessité de reconnaître la variabilité spatiale inhérente de plusieurs conditions spécifiques à chaque région, afin de valider les indicateurs d’adaptation D’où l'importance de l’intégration de l’échelle locale quant à l’adaptation aux CVC

10 Résultats Sont principalement basées sur les entrevues avec les agriculteurs. Les résultats du groupe de rencontre entre les trois agronomes ont été utilisées pour vérifier l’analyse des entrevues avec les 15 agriculteurs.

Allongement de la saison de végétation « On a une grande diversité de culture. Et si les changements climatiques nous en ligne à une culture plus qu’une autre, on a de la possibilité à changer. On a beaucoup de choix. Par exemple, si les UTM continuent à augmenter, on va penser à planter des arachides. » [Farmer in the municipality of Saint-Brigide-D’Iberville] “We adapt when it is necessary. Everything depends on the observation. The average of crop maturity is earlier than that of the last ten (10) years. Thirty (30) years before, we harvested the Macintosh on 21 September. Now we harvest the Macintosh on the 9th or 10th of September. Rainfall became more abundant in the last ten years or so; variation in precipitations is very huge” [Farmer B] Mais: les agriculteurs ne sont pas toujours certain de la longueur de la saison de croissance.

14 Résultats: rôles de différents acteurs dans l’augmentation de la capacité d’adaptation des agriculteurs Clubs conseils (ou agro-environnementaux): Sont les acteurs qui accompagnent les agriculteurs pour la plupart du temps, en particulier en cas de besoin pour une consultation ou de soutien. Et c’est quand les agriculteurs évaluent systématiquement leurs stratégies d’adaptation. Institutions publiques agricoles (comme l'UPA, le MAPAQ et la FAQ): Aident également les agriculteurs dans une certaine mesure, surtout d’une manière indirecte (par exemple, les participants regardent la météo locale tout le temps et c’est habituellement le gouvernement ou ses institutions publiques associées qui développent des systèmes d'alerte précoce pour fournir des informations sur la météo et les prévisions saisonnières). Compagnies privées: Offrent aux agriculteurs un support aux niveaux pratiques et personnels. Cependant, quelques agriculteurs ont mentionné les compagnies privées. « Il y a deux ans, je fais confiance aux compagnies qui me proposent les cultivars (ce qui est plus monétaire qu’idéologique malheureusement) » Les institutions publiques agricoles (comme l'UPA, le MAPAQ et la FAQ): Aident également les agriculteurs dans une certaine mesure (par exemple, la diffusion des informations, l'analyse des données sur les rendements et les volumes des récoltes estimées), mais surtout d’une manière indirecte (par exemple, les participants regardent la météo locale tout le temps et c’est habituellement le gouvernement ou ses institutions publiques associées qui développent des systèmes d'alerte précoce pour fournir des informations météo et les prévisions saisonnières).

Pas de recette magique applicable: tenir compte des spécificités propres à chaque territoire (conditions climatiques, contexte socio économique, …) Les CVC sont réels et nous vivons déjà avec L’adaptation est incontournable, continue et non- irrréversible À retenir Ne pas dissocier les conditions climatiques des facteurs non climatiques dans le processus d’adaptation de l’agriculture aux CVC
