1 CONJUGATING FRENCH –ER VERBS!!!!!!!!!
Text p.94&96 Additional Verbs: Text p.95 In the negative: Text p.98

2 Key terms: Subject Verb Present tense Infinitive Conjugate
Regular verb vs. Irregular verb The “boot”

3 Conjugating a verb in English in the present tense
Start with the infinitive which always means to do something ex: to like, to swim Then depending on the subject being used you conjugate the verb: I run We run You run Y’all run He/she/one runs They run

4 Let’s try another- to eat & to be
I eat We eat You eat Y’all eat He/she/one eats They eat I am We are You are Y’all are He/she/one is They are The verb ‘to be’ would be considered irregular.

5 French conjugations in the present tense
French has three types of verbs: -er, -re, and –ir verbs. Instead of the infinitive coming before the verb (to eat), the infinitive is embedded in the verb: manger, nager, dormir, vendre Some of them are regular and some are irregular

6 Regular –er verb conjugations
Start with the infinitive which always means to do something ex: aimer, danser Drop the infinitive (the –er) Then depending on the subject being used you conjugate the verb by attaching the correct verb ending: Parler- to speak Je parle Nous parlons Tu parles Vous parlez Il/elle/on parle Ils/Elles parlent

7 Let’s try another- aimer (to like) & habiter (to live)
Because the infinitive starts with a vowel you make je into j’ J’aime Nous aimons Tu aimes Vous aimez Il/elle/on aime Ils/Elles aiment J’habite Nous habitons Tu habites Vous habitez Il/elle/on habite Ils/Elles habitent

8 The “boot” Je danse Nous dansons Tu danses Vous dansez
What do you notice about the conjugated pronunciation of the verb ‘danser’? Everything using the subjects- je, tu, il/elle/on, and ils/elles are pronounced the same. These fall inside the “boot”. Anything inside the boot is pronounced the same. Je danse Nous dansons Tu danses Vous dansez Il/elle/on danse Ils/Elles dansent

9 What’s this saying? J’aime le chocolat Nous aimons la littérature
Vous dansez beaucoup Tu parles espagnol?

10 How would you conjugate…
Elles détest_______ la musique pop Vous dans_______ aujourd’hui Andrew aim______ lire Sophie voyag_____

11 Conjugate the verb “organiser”

12 Try writing… You speak French We talk They (all boys) like tests
Tu parles français We talk Nous parlons They (all boys) like tests Ils aiment les examens She travels a lot Elle voyage beaucoup

13 Speak ‘em out- With your neighbor try saying…
I travel We love Grey’s Anatomy You (the President) like to talk They (girls) dance with friends (avec=with) We dance a lot She speaks german (allemand)

14 What are these people doing?

15 Remember French negation
Two words make anything in French negative- ne…pas Where do they go? What do they make? Around the verb. A verb sandwich. Ex: je nage Je ne nage pas Nous regardons la télé Nous ne regardons pas la télé Vous aimez la glace? Vous n’aimez pas la glace?
