2 C ONJUGATION DES VERBES RÉGULIERS EN FORME DE : - ER -ER je-e tu-es il/elle/on -e nous-ons vous-ez ils/elles-ent

3 C OMMENT CONJUGUER LES VERBES DU GROUPE - ER Drop the –er ending from the infinitive to get the stem ex. Danser becomes dans- Add the endings: Je dans e Tu dans es Il dans e Nous dans ons Vous dans ez Ils dans ent (The last two letters are always silent for ils/elles.)

4 S TEM - CHANGING – ER VERBS Verbs ending in –ayer have an optional stem change: Payer Je paie, tu paies, il paie, nous payons, vous payez, ils paient OR Je paye, tu payes, il paye, nous payons, vous payez, ils payent

5 S TEM - CHANGING – ER VERBS Verbs ending in –oyer and –uyer have required stem changes: Nettoyer (to clean) Je nettoie, tu nettoies, il nettoie, nous nettoyons, vous nettoyez, ils nettoient Ennuyer (to bore) Je ennuie, tu ennuies, il ennuie, nous ennuyons, vous ennuyez, ils ennuient

6 S TEM - CHANGING – ER VERBS In –eler verbs, the L becomes doubled in all forms but the nous and vous forms. Épeler (to spell) Jépel l e, tu épel l es, il épel l e, nous épelons, vous épelez, ils épel l ent

7 S TEM - CHANGING – ER VERBS In –eter verbs, the T doubles in all forms except the nous and vous forms. Hoqueter (to hiccup) Je hoquet t e, tu hoquet t es, il hoquet t e, nous hoquetons, vous hoquetez, ils hoquet t ent

8 S TEM - CHANGING – ER VERBS In an e___er pattern, the first e changes to an è in all forms except nous and vous. (The space indicates 1+ consonants.) Lever (to lift, to raise) Je l è ve, tu l è ves, il l è ve, nous levons, vous levez, ils l è vent

9 S TEM - CHANGING – ER VERBS In é___er verbs, the first é becomes an è in all forms but the nous and vous forms. Zébrer (to stripe) Je z è bre, tu z è bres, il z è bre, nous z é brons, vous z é brez, ils z è brent

10 N ÉGATION AVEC NE … PAS You can negate une phrase française (a French sentence) by placing the words ne and pas around the verb. Observe: Je ne veux pas aller. Ils n aiment pas le fromage. Here are other options to experiment with: Ne…jamais Ne…rien Ne…plus
