Question: Est-ce-que tu chantes bien?

Can also become a question if you raise your voice: Tu chantes bien?

You can also invert subject and verb: Question : Chantes-tu bien?

Chantes-tu bien? are Yes-No questions.

7 Information Questions
In English: Who? Where? When? Why? What? How? At What Time?...

8 Where = Où? Où est-ce-que tu vas? Tu vas où? Où vas tu? Où ça?
In conversational English, simple one word questions are often used but in French such one word questions sound abrupt and are incomplete. To make your cquestions convey a more complete idea, you can add CA : ou ca?

9 When = Quand? Quand est-ce-que tu pars? Tu pars quand? Quand pars-tu?
Quand ça?

10 A quelle heure? A quelle heure est-ce-que le train arrive?
A quelle heure le train arrive-t-il? Le train arrive à quelle heure? Notice the phonetic “t” added between arrive and il

11 Why = Pourquoi? Pourquoi est-ce-que tu pleures? Pourquoi pleures-tu?
Pourquoi-ça? Pleurer: to cry

12 How = Comment? Comment est-ce qu’on dit? Comment dit-on?
Comment t’appelles-tu? Comment vas-tu? Comment es- tu? How does one say? How is also used in idiomatic expressions such as: what’s your name? or how are you? Or comment es-tu asks for your description: What do you look like like? Aht are you like/

13 How many / How much = Combien?
Combien de crayons est-ce-que tu as? Combien de crayons as-tu? C’est combien? Combien can mean how many? How many pencils do you have? Or How much, in how much doea it cost? Or how much sugar?

14 What = Quoi?/ Qu’est-ce-que?
Tu fais quoi?= qu’est-ce-tu fais? Qu’est-ce-que c’est? = C’est quoi? Note that “quoi” will be at the end of the question while qu’est-ce que starts the question.

15 Who? = Qui? Tu invites qui? Qui est- ce- que tu invites?
Object Tu invites qui? Qui est- ce- que tu invites? Qui invites-tu? Qui ça ?

16 Who? = Qui? Pour qui est ce cadeau? Avec qui vas-tu à la fête?
Object Pour qui est ce cadeau? Avec qui vas-tu à la fête? A qui est-ce-que tu parles? De qui est-ce que tu parles? Pour qui: for whom; avec qui: with whom; a qui: to whom?, de qui: about whom or from whom? : de qui est cette lettre?

17 Who? = Qui? Subject Qui chante? Qui est-il? = Qui est-ce?

18 Practice Turn the statements into questions: Il étudie.
Tu vas voyager. Vous faites une promenade.

19 Practice/ Answers Est-ce qu’il étudie? Etudie-t-il?
Est-ce que tu vas voyager? Vas-tu voyager? Est-ce que vous faites une promenade? Faites-vous une promenade?

20 Practice Ask the appropriate question: Il invite son amie.
Elle va au lycée. Nous partons demain. He invites his friend; She goes to the high school; We leave to-morrow
