2 Framework: Years 3 - 6 Year 3: Experiment with the writing of simple words. Year 4: Write simple words & phrases using a model and some words from memory Year 5: Write words, phrases and short sentences, using a reference Year 6: Write sentences on a range of topics using a model

3 Writing in Years 5 & 6 Dont panic! Year 5\: L5.2 Make simple sentences & short texts. Make a sentence using single word cards. Make a short text using word & phrase cards. Year 6: L6.4 Write a sentence on a range of topics using a model. Construct a short text, e.g. a Powerpoint

4 Looking ahead to Year 7….. Use sentences & paragraphs as models for their own writing Use familiar structures & vocabulary to build short paragraphs of narrative & non-narrative text.

5 Literacy links Literacy Links Il était une fois, au milieu dune forêt épaisse, une petite maison où habitait une jolie petite fille nommée Petit Chaperon Rouge. 7 How to move to formal writing. Build up vocabulary of chosen topic. Start with lots of informal practice Human sentence chains. Practise key phrases with familiar vocabulary Start with lots of manual manipulation of words, phrases.

8 Constructing simple sentences. Bonjour, Papa. Bonjour, Maman. Bonjour, mon frère. Bonjour, ma sœur. Et moi, bonjour petit. Say as finger rhyme.

9 ….move on to Dans ma famille, il y a Papa, Maman et moi etc…. Practise this by keeping core structure, changing nouns.

10 ….finally to Write a description of their family, or choose a character. Je mappelle Brooklyn Beckham. Dans ma famille, il y a Papa, Maman, mon frère Romeo, mon frère Cruz, ma sœur Harper et moi.
