4 Génèse des projets 1.1- Du projet TEDEVI au projet REVOR…
Goals People with disabilities and the aged need to be independent and autonomous in order to improve their quality of life. This implies freedom of movement, environmental control systems, disability compensation, remote communication devices, etc. In this sense, the S.I.D. research group aims to federate existing (and new) assistive technologies in a generic, service-oriented framework that can be configured according to  user needs. Moreover, the proposed services are tested by end users (the disabled, the aged) in order to ensure that they respond to a real need and that their use is well-adapted to the user. Methods Achievements 1.Home control service. By exploiting the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) service discovery standard, this service allows the end user to dynamically discover home devices (lights, TV sets,  shutters, etc) and to control them regardless of the device manufacturer.  2.Braille eLearning service. This service uses videoconferencing facilities in order to allow a visually impaired person to communicate with a teacher and learn Braille and palliative techniques. 3.Remote home-care service. Intended to be used by the aged, this service aims to coordinate solutions to limit their solitude. It proposes the visualization of images or messages sent by the family or flashing information about events on their area. This service has been used by several elderly people in Brest by October 2004, and is currently tested in retirement homes.
