Each lesson introduces 8 or 9 letters, letter combinations or letter-strings with a picture or short phrase. There is room for differentiation even at the presentation stage, as the whole phrase can be introduced or just one word. Rha-08

This is one sound with 3 x different spellings. Of course the slide could be altered just to present one word BUT the comedy of the picture and the linking of the three images should help to cement all 3 x spelling possibilities for this one sound! sur la tête.

4 é/er/et/ez un boulanger.. a visité St.Tropez St.Tropez
This is one of the most important sounds in French and the one represented by the most spelling varieties – it can subsequently form the basis of many a different starter! St.Tropez

6 oi Le roi des poissons I love this picture – you will have to make meaning explicit by pointing out which bit is ‘roi’ and which bit is ‘poisson’ but I think the image is strong enough to enhance memory fixing of this sound.

I like the build up of rhyme and meaning in this one. Of course you could just focus on the word ‘fruit’ instead.

Priority word here is pain but again the rhyme with the picture gives this one strength.

10 ou une douche une bouche rouge
Sometimes pictures just seem ‘fit for purpose’ – there are 3 words to reinforce this sound within this picture. Focus on douche for the action perhaps.

Again, an absolutely key sound that is contained within millions of French words. It helps students here to see the different spellings but here the same sound.
