3  Warning: Do not confuse voir with the similar verb, regarder, which means “to look at.”  Past tense:  Voir’s past participle is irregular: vu  As-tu vu ce film?  J’ai vu grandir ses enfants.  Imperative: Vois, voyons, voyez

4  Aller voir – to go and see Va voir si elle est prête!  Faire voir – to show Fais-moi voir tes devoirs.  Voir venir – to see something/someone coming Je te vois venir (I see where you’re going.) Mais c’est trop cher! On t’a vu venir!

5  Can mean “to see oneself”: Te vois-tu dans la glace? (Do you see yourself in the mirror?)  “To see each other”: Nous nous voyons tous les jours.  “To happen, to show, to be visible”: Ça se voit. (That happens.) Le trou ne se voit pas. (The hole isn’t visible.)

6  Croire is the infinitive form of the verb “to think, to believe.”  Conjugation:  Je crois  Tu crois  Il/elle/on croit  Nous croyons  Vous croyez  Ils/elles croient

7  Past tense:  Croire’s past participle is irregular: cru  On l’a cru mort! (He was believed to be dead.)  J’ai cru que c’était impossible.  Imperative:  Crois, croyons, croyez

8  Croire + que means “to think that/to believe that” If the sentence is affirmative, the present tense of the verb follows “que”:  Je crois qu’elle va venir avec nous. If the sentence is negative, the subjunctive follows “que”:  Il ne croit pas que je puisse le faire.

9  Croire + à and Croire + en both mean “to believe in” or “to have faith in.”  Les enfants croient toujours au Père Noël. The kids still believe in Santa Claus.  Je ne sais pas s’il croit en Dieu. I don’t know if he believes in God.

10  Se croire means “to believe oneself”, “to think oneself” or “to feel as if”.  Examples:  Il se croit très malin. (He thinks himself very clever.)  On se croirait en vacances. (You’d think we were on vacation./ It feels like we’re on vacation.)
