2 Year 12 – French & Spanish AS - WJEC www.wjec.co.uk for whole specification www.wjec.co.uk no January exam speaking exam around Easter time, external examiner, 40% of AS (20% of whole A level) 1 written exam (listening + reading + translation + essay) in June, 60% of AS (30% of whole A level)

3 The following topics will be studied with reference to target language countries as well as in a wider, global context as appropriate. (a)Leisure and Lifestyles, including travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions, healthy living – health and nutrition, diet and exercise; unhealthy living - drugs, aids, smoking, alcohol, etc (b)The Individual and Society, including relationships and responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture (values, peer groups, fashions and trends etc.), education, vocational training and future careers.

4 AS candidates will be required to : listen and respond to a variety of spoken sources, including authentic sources read and respond to a variety of written texts, including authentic sources,covering different contexts, registers, styles and genres adapt their spoken and written language appropriately for different situations and purposes use the language accurately to express facts and ideas, and to present explanations, opinions and information in both speech and writing understand and apply the grammatical system and a range of structures as detailed in the AS specification (See Appendix 1) transfer meaning from foreign language into English..

Les jeunes s’intéressent plus aux ordinateurs qu’à la télé. La télé aide la concentration des enfants. La violence et les actes sexuels à la télé sont un vrai danger aux enfants. La télé rend le travail des profs beaucoup plus difficile. La télé est un vrai plaisir pour les jeunes. La télé n’a pas d’importance dans la vie quotidienne des enfants. Beaucoup d’émissions ont un rôle éducatif En regardant la télé, on s’amuse et on apprend au même temps La télé a détruit la conversation familiale

9 Preparation for AS French Work through the grammar booklet you have been provided with. Ensure you know and understand what you have revised. This will be tested on your return. Organise an A4 folder with subject dividers, plastic wallets etc ready for 1 st lesson. Make a habit of reading the headlines of TF1 over the summer break. Bring a list of 15 headlines in French from 15 different days ready to discuss 1 st lesson. Ensure you understand the headlines and can test the group.
