1 MDG Discussion Questions In terms of your MDG (goal), what was your country’s status in 2000 and how much progress has your country made to date in accomplishing the goal? Please provide specific details and examples. –In relation to global partnership, Tunisia, in 2000 was becoming a large importer of oil. The government was interacting with other countries but the citizens were not. At the time in 2000, Tunisian citizens did not have a freedom of speech and were strictly controlled by the government. Since 2000 there was not much change in the way the government ran the country. Only recently, during the revolt, has the government changed. –Par rapport au partenariat global, Tunisie, dans 2000 devenait un grand importateur de pétrole. Le gouvernement réagi réciproquement avec les autres pays mais les citoyens n'étaient pas. Au temps dans 2000, citoyens tunisiens n'ont pas eu une liberté de discours et ont été strictement contrôlés par le gouvernement. Depuis 2000 il n'y avait pas beaucoup de changement dans la façon que le gouvernement a couru le pays.

2 Questions Cont. What are some of the underlying causes (including social and economic factors) that have contributed to your country’s present state(goal)? –What has led to Tunisia’s recent state has been the revolt which began in December of 2010. The Tunisian revolt is an intense campaign of civil resistance towards the government. The series of street campaigns and protests led to the ousting of the longtime leader Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. The cause of this revolt was most likely to come from many situations such as high unemployment, corruption in government, food inflation, a lack of freedom of speech and many political policies. –Ce qu'a mené à Tunisie récente déclare a été la révolte qui a commencé en décembre de 2010. La collection de campagnes de rue et de protestations a mené à l'éjecter du Ben d'Abidine d'El de Revue de dirigeant depuis longtemps Ali. La cause de cette révolte était la plus probable pour venir de beaucoup de situations comme l'haut chômage, la corruption dans le gouvernement, et l'inflation de nourriture.

3 Questions Cont. How can government and citizens create conditions that would facilitate the emergence of new solutions? What are the conditions? –A new temporary government was announced on January 17th. Within this temporary form of government there are twelve members from the ruling RCD government, leaders of three opposing parties (Mustapha Ben Jafar from the Democratic Forum for Labour and Liberties, Ahmed Ibrahim of the Movement Ettajdid and Ahmed Najib Chebbi of the Progressive Democratic Party), three representatives from the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and representatives of the civil society. However, one day after it was established, three members of the UGTT quit and one member of the FTDL quit as well. Dans cette forme temporaire de gouvernement il y a douze membres du gouvernement de RCD de jugement, les dirigeants de trois partis opposant. Un jour aprés lui a été établi, trois membres de l'UGTT cessent et un membre du FTDL cesse aussi.

4 Questions Cont. How can the government in your country build trust networks and support honest dialogue on critical issues to transcend the currents situation related to your goal? –The government in Tunisia will need to be able to get along with each other even though they are from different parties. If they all act as one unified government they will be able to set up such things and help the country build from the revolt. –Le gouvernement aura à Tunisie besoin de pouvoir s'entendre bien qu'ils sont des partis différents. S'ils servent d'un gouvernement unifié qu'ils pourront établir telles choses et aident le pays construit de la révolte.

5 Questions Cont. Which global partnerships are working to improve the MDG’s and what are some ways to strengthen and maintain these important partnerships? What additional partnerships need to be created? –Our group’s goal is creating global partnership so it is very important for us to recognize how Tunisia can be connected to the rest of the world while they are establishing a new government. The UN will be the biggest help for them because it does create global partnership. –Notre objectif du groupe crée le partenariat global donc c'est très important pour nous reconnaître comment Tunisie peut être connectée au reste du monde pendant qu'ils établissent un nouveau gouvernement. L'ONU sera la plus grande aide pour eux parce qu'il crée le partenariat global.
