2 Le Futur To form the futur tense – add endings to the futur stem.
Je –ai nous –ons Tu –as vous –ez Il/elle/ on –a ils/elles –ont For –er and –ir verbs, the infinitive is the futur stem: Aimer – aimer + endings J’aimerai – I will like Tu aimeras – you will like Il finira – he will finish

3 Futur of –re verbs For the futur stem of an –re verb – drop the “e”
Attendre – attendr Nous attendrons – we will wait Vous rendrez – you will return * spell changing verbs (one that add accents or extra letters) change in the futur stem Acheter – j’achèterai, appeler – tu appelleras

5 Conditional ; le conditionnel
Le forme – the future stem plus the imparfait endings. Futur stem: Parler  parler-, finir  finir-, vendre  vendr- Aller  ir, être  ser, faire  fer, avoir  aur-, savoir  saur, pouvoir  pourr-, mourir  mourr- voir  verr-, envoyer  enverr-, courir  courr-, vouloir  voudr- Endings: Je – ais nous –ions Tu –ais vous –iez Il/elle/on –ait ils/elles –aient

6 Avoir – to have J’aurais – I would have Tu aurais – you would have
Il/elle aurait – he would have Nous aurions – we would have Vous auriez – you would have Ils/elles auraient – they would have * the conditional in English, usually we put would before a verb- I would like – je voudrais

7 Present participle Parlons – drop the –ons and add –ant
Parlant – talking Finir – finissons – drop the –ons and add –ant Finissant – finishing Être – étant Avoir – ayant Savoir – sachant Used together with “en” to say while talking – en parlant Being so intelligent – étant si intelligent, je peux parler deux langues! Also used as an adjective – une histoire intéressante

8 Passé composé avec avoir
To talk about the past of completed actions, you use the present tense of avoir and the past participle… Most verbs in past use avoir! Avoir – J’ai nous avons Tu as vous avez Il/elle/ on a ils /elles ont Past participle –er verbs  drop the –er and é : mangé -ir verbes  drop the –ir and –i : fini -re verbes  drop the –re and u : vendu

Avoir – eu Être – été ♪ Faire – fait Boire – bu Connaître – connu Devoir – dû Lire – lu Pleuvoir – plu Pouvoir – pu Recevoir – reçu Savoir – su Voir – vu Vouloir – voulu Dire – dit Écrire – écrit Prendre – pris Mettre – mis Sourire - souri

10 *** Remember*** To make a sentence with passe compose negative – add ne and pas Ne goes before avoir and pas goes after avoir == it’s an avoir sandwich! Ex: J’ai marché avec le chien. Je n’ai pas marché avec le chien. Direct object pronouns – (le, la, les that go before a verb and mean it, them) your verb(pp) must agree with the dop – Tu as attrapé les poissons? Je les ai attrapés.

Devenir – to become Entrer – to enter Retourner – to return Tomber – to fall Rester – to stay Arriver – to arrive Mourir – to die Partir – to leave Passer – to pass (through a place) Descendre – go down Renter – to return Monter – to go up Revenir – to return Sortir – to go out Venir – to come Aller – to go Naître – to be born

12 Subject-verb Agreement
When you use the verb être in the passé composé, you must make the verb agree with the subject in gender (m/f) and number (s/p) : Elle est venue Nous sommes montés Ils sont devenus

13 Imparfait – setting a scene, descriptions, ongoing past actions
How to make the imparfait : Take the Nous form in present tense Drop the –ons Add the imparfait endings…. Je –ais nous – ions Tu – ais vous – iez Il/elle/ on – ait ils/elles – aient Was/were +ing…

14 Habiter - to live ( nous habitons)
J’habitais nous habitions Tu habitais vous habitiez Il habitait ils habitaient

15 Être  ét + imparfait endings
J’étais nous étions Tu étais vous étiez Il était ils étaient

16 Imparfait and passé composé
I was reading a book, when the phone rang. Je lisais un roman, quand le téléphone a sonné. Ma mère était fatiguée et elle ne voulait pas travailler. Je suis allée à Wal-Mart hier, et j’ai acheté du bifteck.
