22 Attention!  Note that the definite articles le and la are shortened to l’ when they accompany a noun that begins with a vowel, regardless of gender. Ex. l’ami, l’amie, l’école, l’élève

23 Pronunciation  When the definite articles (le and la) are shortened to l’ before a vowel, the vowel sound is dropped.  The n of the indefinite article un is pronounced when it accompanies a noun beginning with a vowel.

25 L’accord des adjectifs  An adjective must agree with the noun it describes/modifies. Adjectives that end in a consonant such as blond and français have two forms in the singular. La fille est blonde Le garçon est blond

26 L’accord des adjectifs cont.  Adjectives that end in e, such as énergique and sympathique, are both feminine and masculine. Charlotte est très énergique Nicolas est très énergique

31 La négation To make a sentence negative in French, you put ne…pas around the verb. Note that ne becomes n’ before a vowel. Je suis américain. Je ne suis pas français.
