3 Le plus-que-parfait As in English, the PLUPERFECT (le plus-que-parfait) is used to describe what people HAD DONE or WHAT HAD HAPPENED before another past action or event. Cet été, j’ai visité Québec. L’année avant, j’avais visité Montréal. Quand nous sommes arrivés à la gare, le train était parti. This summer, I visited Quebec. Last year, I had visited Montreal. When we arrived at the station, the train had left.

8 Le conditionnel: les phrases avec SI
The CONDITIONAL is used to express what WOULD HAPPEN, if certain conditions contrary to reality were met. si-clause: IMPERFECT result clause: CONDITIONAL Si je gagnais à la loterie, j’achèterais une moto. In French, the CONDITIONAL is never used in the si-clause. Si j’avais une voiture, j’irais à la campagne. Si nous habitions à Paris, nous voyagerions en métro. If I had a car (but I don’t), I would go to the country. If we were living in Paris (but we aren’t), we would travel by subway.

9 Le conditionnel: indirect speech
Used to report what people mentioned IN THE PAST about a FUTURE EVENT. It describes what they said they WOULD DO or what WOULD HAPPEN later. Comparez: Maintenant, Eric dit qu’il ira au ciné. Hier, il a dit qu’il irait au concert. Now, Eric says that he will go to the movies. Yesterday, he said he would go to the concert.
