5 The Dr +Mrs Van der Tramp verbs These verbs are intransitive and do not have direct objects. They usually refer to movement back and forth, from one place to another, or up and down or to location or to a state of being.

6 When you use etre to form the passe compose, you must make the past participle agree with the subject of the sentence. Look at the previous sentences: With être the subject is singular and feminine Elle est sortie avec ses copines hier soir. With avoir There is no agreement because the auxillary verb is avoir. Elle a fait ses devoirs a minuit hier soir.

7 The subject is plural and feminine. Ses copines sont allées à la station de sports dhiver le dernier weekend. The subject is masculine and plural. Ses copains sont allés à la station de sports dhiver le dernier weekend.

8 There is no agreement with a verb conjugated with avoir in the passé composé Elle a fait ses devoirs apr è s minuit!

9 The past participle must agree with the subject in gender and number when être is used to make the passé composé. Masculine and singular Il est sorti avec ses copains hier soir.

10 Feminine and singular Elle est sortie avec ses copains hier soir.
