2 Verbs in French are classified into 3 major groups according to their endings and their morphology (forms) when they are conjugated.

3 Verbs ending in –er belong to the first group. Their conjugation in the present indicative tense shows certain common forms.

4 Donner – to give Présent Je donne Nous donnons Tu donnes Vous donnez Il donne Ils donnent Elle donne Elles donnent

5 Manger – to eat Je mange Nous mangeons Tu manges Vous mangez Il mange Ils mangent Elle mange Elles mangent

6 Appeler – to call J appelle Nous appelons Tu appelles Vous appelez Il appelle Ils appellent Elle appelle Elles appellent

7 Employer – to use J emploie Nous employons Tu emploies Vous employez Il emploie Ils emploient Elle emploie Elles emploient

8 Commencer – to start, to begin, to commence Je commence Nous commençons Tu commences Vous commencez Il commence Ils commencent Elle commence Elles commencent

10 Aller-to go : Even though aller is a –er verb it does not belong to the first group. It is an irregular verb and belongs to the 3rd group verbs. Its conjugation takes different forms:
