2 Exciting News! Up until now, you have mainly memorized phrases and expressions straight from the vocab lists. This unit will teach you how to create your own phrases and express yourself in different ways!

3 Parts of a sentence Sujet = subject
Definition: a noun (person, place, or thing) that completes the action. Verbe = verb Definition: an action In the following sentences, identify the subject and the verb. 1) I dance a lot. 2) She drives to school. 3) We eat at Wendy’s. 4) You speak English.

4 Je m’appelle Madame Noyce. Je parle français et anglais.
Bonjour! Je m’appelle Madame Noyce. Je parle français et anglais. Je skie en hiver. Je joue au tennis en été. J’habite à Provo. J’arrive à Summit Academy à huit heures. Looking at the examples above, what do you think is the subject and what is the verb? Why are there 2 forms of the subject “je” / “j’”? When do you use each? What do all of the verbs have in common (look at spelling)?

conjugated verb, (an action) ends in ‘e’ Ex. je skie. = I ski parler, skier, habiter, jouer, arriver, etc. = Infinitive = (unconjugated verb) ends in ‘er’ Ex. skier = to ski

11 Une histoire (A story) As a class, we are going to use the vocab we just learned to make up a story about a character we choose. Exemple: Je m’appelle Santa Claus. J’habite à the North Pole. Il fait froid à the North Pole. Je téléphone à Madame Claus et à mes elfes (my elves). Je skie avec Rudolph en hiver, au printemps, en été, et en automne. Je joue au golf et je joue au volley aussi. Je parle bien anglais et français, mais je parle mal japonais. J’invite Dasher et Dancer et Prancer et Vixon et je dîne à McDonald’s.

16 Une histoire (A story) As a class, we are going to use the the new subjects and verbs to make up a story about a character we choose. Exemple: Il s’appelle Mickey Mouse. Il voyage à Disneyland avec Minnie. Mickey et Minnie écoutent la radio dans l’automobile. Ils arrivent à Disneyland à 7h00 du matin et ils donnent l’argent (money) pour entrer dans le parc (to enter the park). Mickey reste à Disneyland toute la journée (all day). Il danse avec Minnie, il admire les rollercoasters, il regarde les touristes, et il mange des churros. Finalement, il rentre à l’hôtel avec Minnie.
