We had done the first two exercises of the story pack so this was following on from last week’s lesson and was a revision of some of the vocabulary encountered – I put it into the present tense as it was a Y8 class.

3 L’histoire jusqu’ici Qui est Jean? Il est comment? Où habite-t-il?
Qu’est-ce qu’il aime manger? De quoi a-t-il peur? Qu’est-ce qu’il fait une nuit? Pourquoi? Qu’est-ce qu’il voit? Qui arrive tout d’un coup? Il est un monstre Il est vert, petit et moche Il habite dans un marais Il aime manger des omelettes Il a peur des autruches Il sort du marais Pour découvrir le voleur des œufs Les œufs sont sans protection La police arrive Done orally based on the vocabulary from the previous slide

4 Les devoirs de la semaine dernière
He could see in the dark and he left the swamp at night. Everyone was sleeping. He went close to the tree where the ostriches liked to spend the night. He saw the eggs were without protection. The ostriches had gone to the cinema. The police caught him. The eggs were safe and sound. He was a real monster. La police l’avait pris. Les oeufs étaient saufs et sains. Il était un véritable monstre

5 Les devoirs Now you are to turn the story so far into a cartoon strip with the narration and speech bubbles in French. Use colour, imagination and don’t forget that you can lift French structures from the text.

6 Now read part 2 of the story and put the text in the correct order
Now read part 2 of the story and put the text in the correct order. To make it easier: use the English on the reverse of the card To make it harder: just read the French I made this into cards which had the French on one side, the English in the other and the students had to work in pairs putting it into the correct order.

7 Let’s see if you have it in the right order by finding the following words

8 Now find the following in the French text
Come with me No good denying it He said nothing I thank you On the spot All night Everyone Couldn’t be Venez avec moi Inutile de le nier Il n’a rien dit Je vous remercie Sur le champ Toute la nuit Tout le monde Ne pouvait pas être

9 Telling the story Re-read the English version again and discuss with your partner which 10 sentences you will need to tell the outline of the story in the next part of your cartoon strip. You don’t need all the detail because the pictures and speech bubbles will fill in the gaps. Once you have done that find the French for the sentences you have underlined.

10 Now use these French sentences to convert the second part of the story into your cartoon strip on the next page. Remember to put any speech bubbles in French too.

11 The ending Now look at the 3 different possible endings. Read them all, underlining any words you know. Most of the words have been used in the story before, so look back and check what they meant. With your partner decide what happens in all 3 of the possible endings. Choose one and write out a summary in English in your pack

12 Now finish the cartoon strip in French using the ending of your choice.
Please note – there will be a prize for the best bande dessinée
