4 Les pronoms relatifs qui et que A relative pronoun is used to connect or relate sentences. This happens when what could have been two separate yet correlated sentences are converged into one. qui (who / that / which) que (whom / that / which)

5 Le pronom relatif qui Qui may refer to people or things. It is the subject of the verb which follows. * trick: if a verb follows, use qui J’ai une chienne qui mange bien. I have a dog who eats well. Tu regardes des livres qui parlent de la Renaissance. You are looking at books which speak of the Renaissance.

6 Le pronom relatif que Que may refer to people or things. It is the direct object of the verb which follows. * trick: if a subject follows, use que Le prof est un enseignant que j’aime bien. The teacher is a educator who I really like. Le français est une langue que tu parles souvent. French is a language that you speak often.

7 L’usage du passé composé o Passé Composé is used when an event happened one time, or when the event of which you are speaking is the main event. o The imparfait is used for repeated events and descriptions of an event.

8 P.C. : La conjugaison The conjugation has two parts: 1 – a helping verb (avoir or être in present tense) 2 – a past participle (regular or irregular) For regular past participles, begin with the infinitive then drop the ending and the appropriate ending: -er –> manger –> mang- -> mangé -ir –> choisir –> chois- -> choisi -re –> vendre –> vend- -> vendu

12 Bon à savoir o There’s only one past participle per infinitive. o The past participle is already in the right form. o Avoir and être are just helping verbs, they do not keep their normal meaning. o The ne / pas will always surround the helping verb. (ex. - Ils ne sont pas allés en France.) o In inversion, the helping verb is linked with the subject pronoun and the past participle follows. (ex. - Avez-vous fait vos devoirs?) o Dr. Mrs. Vandertramp verbs use être and make agreement in the past participle.

13 Imparfait - La Conjugaison The conjugation has three parts: 1 – take nous form (present tense) 2 – Drop –ons ending 3 – Add endings to the stem: je – aisnous – ions tu – aisvous – iez il – aitelles - aient
